Rocky Point is holding a youth tournament Jan 24th 2010, I've yet to decide on the format.

I'm thinking of a dual meet format, with 8-10 teams. Every team will receive 4-5 matches.

I've got respone from 3 teams, one being in N.J., so if your interested please feel free to email me and reserve your spot. Club teams welcome...

Flier is posted....

Teams That definetly confirmed for the event are:

Rocky Point
Walt Whitman
Mattituck
Team N.J
Wantagh

Need three more teams...

The reason for dual meet's are to show the kids that this is as much of a team sport then they think. It will also give them a chance to cheer each-other on. And give them a taste of what is in store in the future.

And it will be a break from the regular format of the everyday tournament and also give the parents a chance to watch there full team in action without having to get stiff neck...

 Jacked,

I'm hoping a team from Nassau comes to be honest with you. If not I'll see what I can do. Certain clubs hold tournaments and make money but do not go to other people's fuction's when asked. It's like "come to our tournaments and give us your money" but when it's time for them to return the favor they always have excuses....

A team tournament might be hard to run. In LI there are only three clubs. Hofstra ( no little kids ), 3 Style ( not a lot of little guys, 20 is a rough number ) and Razor. There are kids playing football and other sports right now. The clubs start up soon. I know you would get better numbers with a regular tournament. If the kids were wrestling now, you might get something going with better numbers. I just had Zack Esposito in and the numbers were approx 50 to 60 at $25.00 dollars. Clinics cost double that. We should have had over 100 easy. Our town team does not have sign ups until Nov 6, 2009.

tournament isn't until Jan 24th, months away...

Thats the thing I don't want to have a regular tourney, there is more to wrestling...and the kids need to know this early on.

 Massapaqua could field two teams.....

and there are teams in Suffolk who can field teams.....

I'm half way to my goal of 8 teams.

Just to clear up a few things about the dual meet format.

Yes it's a dual meet and teams will want to win, but having younger kids wrestle with the older kids is for the older kids to lead the way. Most of the young kids 1st-3rd should take up the lower weight classes-then 4th through 6th should take up the upper weight's.

There will be a coaches meeting before the tournament. Just keep in mind we would prefer not to have a 1st or 2nd grader wrestling a 5th or 6th grader. This is why the teams will meet before each match and get the best possible match-ups for there kids. Yes it's nice to win, but it's also about letting the kids enjoy themselves and have fun and learn about dual meet's. My goal is not to win at all cost's, it's about having a fun filled day.

So let's say someone has a 60lb 6th grader and another team has a 60lb 1st grader and a 65lb 5th grader, the coaches should take the match at 65lbs.

All kids on the rosters will get matches, we will leave plenty of time for the team match to end, then exhibition matches, so some kids can wrestle 2 matches in one dual meet. They can get 8-10 matches in a single day.

Any ideas or comments please let me know, yes we are running the tournament but anyway we can make this a positive event we are all for it.

It say's k-6----but most teams will be gearing towards 3th-6th, I have a few 1st graders who will wrestle only 1st or 2nd graders. The 2nd graders I have will wrestle anyone.

Is it up to 6th grade or 8th grade? I thought I saw both at some point and was wondering which was correct.

Still in need of 3 teams.

If you need to see if starting dual meets at an early age works, look at teams Like John Glenn,Wantagh,Hauppauge,Rocky Point and Garden City, those teams did this years ago and are now doing very well.

Dual meets teach the kids that this is a team sport. To many parents today are stuck on the fact that this is not a team sport and if they see at an early age that this is indeed a team sport it will be that much better in the long run.

I hope teams or clubs take advantage of this because it's not only good for the kids , it's good for the sport.

I've noticed that there are a lot of people who talk a very good game but do not back it up or support the sport as well as they pretend to. If this is in fact all about the kids, then there should be no reason you or your team would not inquire about this.

need 2 more teams still. There is no limit on the amount of wrestlers brought, remember it's up to the coaches to get there wrestlers matches.
