GC Dad:

I could be wrong where he is wrestling but Angelo and Matt are friends. They spent 2 weeks together this summer and Angelo was weighing 198 to 200 pounds. He stated that he did not want to really lose weight. There were also some other factors that played into where he might wrestle. Last time we spoke in Aug that was his plan 215.

I chatted with the Niagara-Wheatfield coach in late September and he seemed to believe that Angelo would end up at 189...However, things certainly can and do change.

Please !! weighing 198-200 lbs and wrestling 189 plus lbs (192-194) is not losing weight . Unless Matt was spanking him why would Angelo wrestle 215 (218-220). To me it sounds like Matt can handle him and he will being going 215 to avoid him...

Angelo told me that his best chance was of winning a championship might be 215 and not 189. I can't tell you what he might do when the season starts. He felt that it would be silly to try and go the same wt as Matt if the best 2 wrestlers were at the same wt and he thought one of them could win 215.

Jacked would be in a much better position than me to say who has the upper hand...On paper, both are NHSCA All-Americans (With Angelo owning the only National title), NYS Placewinners (With Matt having the highest finish, 2nd), etc...Therefore, I would think that until proven otherwise, it would best be considered a toss-up.

160 is so weak.  I dont think ive ever seen a weak class ever have both a catholic wrestler and PSAL wrestler in the top 5 in the state.  This is not me stating anything against either of these leagues because I believe the catholic league is on the rise, but still.

i hear what you are saying but both kids are tough.  villaret has proven himself to be a contender for all-state honors.

NY WRestler 1991, because in 1991 there were not many Catholic or PSAL wrestlers winning against Public school wrestlers. If you go to the many tourneys now you always see alot of catholic leauge wrestlers placing and on the podium.

Mathappy, instead of assuming, realize that 1991 is not my graduation year, but instead its my year or birth.  Therefore i can be a good judge of where both the CHSAA is and where the PSAL is.  Yes i believe the CHSAA will have its best showing ever this year.  And yes i believe ben villaret is a good wrestle and believe he will place, but to see him ranked second and a PSAL wrestler who took 5th in the mayors cup tournament (all city tournament) its hard to believe that 160 is nearly as competitive as recent years.  Especially considering that last year 160, was considered a weak weight class.  Which saw 4 all star wrestlers return to the podium.  This weight class has a combined 2 wins up at the state tournament, 1 win was villaret over holden.  The result of both a CHSAA wrestler and PSAL wrestler both being ranked in this weight class is simply due to the fact that this is the weakest weight class in NY.
