Nice breakdown with the current ranked wrestlers

i like how Nassau does it’s qualifiers
placing top 6 with full wrestle back’s

even if you draw top seed and drop your first match
your day is not over and the chance to still get on podium exists

I have a question. Where and when are the Nassau County Section VIII championships taking place?

nice breakdown of the qualifiers. The Massapequa qualifier is very very tough. I agree nice to see
full wrestlebacks. allows a backup who may not get seeded to come back and place.

I can tell you D1 is Sat/Sun 2/15-16 and they are at Farmingdale State College.  I should have something up Monday night or early Tuesday with all the times and dates for both D1 & D2.

Well i was at the Massapequa qualifier. There were lots of really good matches throughout the day.
Massapequa was obviously the dominant team but other teams had quite a few good wrestlers as well.
Hewlett, PT washington, Mineola, East Meadow, Valley stream Central, Oceanside, Sewanakha East
all had wrestlers place in the top 6.

Manhasset qualifies 24 wrestlers into the Nassau County Championships.
Do not be surprised if they win the team trophy!

I would be very surprised if Manhasset won it, because as deep as they are, I'm not sure they will have anyone advancing to the finals (McCusker their best shot).......and that's where the big points are.  So because of that, I still expect the winner to be a tight race of Massapequa and Wantagh......with Massapequa getting the edge due to depth AND high finishers.

I noticed Lee Mauras is listed under hempstead now, didn't he wrestle for Freeport in previous years? When was the last time Hempstead had a county champ, possible state champ?

1990.  105 - Calvin Whitfield, county champ.  I believe Harris was their only State Champ though.

Data base is missing a few entries:

Johnny Harris was Nassau Co champ at 106 in 1963 and 1964. He was also NYS champ both years -- the first repeat winner in NY history.
In 1964, his brother George Harris placed 4th at 115. In 1968 Craig Morton placed 2nd at 106 to Robert Pina of Freeport who won the state title that year.

Johnny Harris won in 1963 in a huge upset over Schoenbach of Valley Stream Central who had beaten him in the sections the week before quite handily. The following year 1964 two defending state champs from 1963 met in the Nassau semis at 106 where Harris defeated Pete Henning 3-1 on a late counter TD.
Harris was lightning quick and explosively strong. His 1964 finals 5-4 win against Jon Morley of Ocenaside after winning that semis bout was a classic. Morley went on to become a D1 AA at Morehead State, MN in 1969, placing 5th at 115. Mooerhead St was recruiuting LI heavy back then -- they also had Mike Fitzgerald a state champ from Mepham and Billy Germann a state runner-up from Wantagh....also Bob Lambert from Massapequa who later became Wantagh coach in 1969.
