are these answers correct for NY??

here are some scenarios. are these answers correct in NY state???

A) Wrestler A lifts the opponent off the mat and, while
Wrestler B is in the air struggling to get free, Wrester A loses
control and Wrestler B falls to the mat and is injured Is there a
penalty? If so, what would it be? What would be the proper sequence of
events following this incident?

1 point penalty, wrestler A is responsible for the safe return.

B) At the beginning of the 2nd
period Wrestler A has choice. The official mistakenly gives Wrestler B
the choice, and B chooses top. B then pins Wrestler A What should
happen?
Wrestler A gets choice in 3rd period. This is a new rule this year. Wrestler B would be the winner.

C) Wrestler A takes an injury timeout in the first
period. In the second period Wrestler A takes his 2nd injury timeout.
In the third period Wrestler B applies a Figure 4 to the head of
Wrestler A while both are still in a neutral position. Wrestler A is
injured from this move Is there a penalty? If so, what would it be?
What would be the proper sequence of events following this incident?
1 point for illegal move and 2 minutes of recovery time, if the wrestler cannot go on, then he wins by DQ

D)
Wrestler A is injured, and during injury time her nose begins to bleed.
What would the proper sequence of events be following this incident?
Stop injury time and start blood time

E)
Team A travels to a tournament out of town. During weigh ins in the
135lb class, Team As 160lb wrestler attempts to enter the room to join
his team. What would the proper sequence of events be following this
incident?
Once the "door" is shut, no one can enter, he cannot wrestle

F) Wrestler A checks in at the table for her match.
Then, before walking onto the mat, she goes to her corner to talk to
her coach. Is this a penalty? If so, what would the proper call be?
There is a penalty, I believe its unsportsmanlike. Even though most officials won't call this unless it blatantly holds up the match

G)
Wrestler A checks in at the table for his match. He then walks onto the
mat and picks up his ankle band and goes out of the circle to his
corner to talk with his coach. Is this a penalty? If so, what would the
proper call be?
Same as F

Forum: HS Rules and Officiating

This is going to be a VERY long season. This is finally the first year with all Shifflet recruits and I do not believe he has the program moving in the right direction. I know its early but this does not look good for the program which has teams like Nebraska, Ohio State, Missouri, and Cornell in their schedule.

You have to tip your hats to the Buffalo squad. They came out with a little more intensity and urgency than Hofstra did. It used to be Hofstra was the team coming out fired up with a sense of something to prove.

A few bright spots in this dual was Ben Clymers and Jamie Franco. Clymers looked like very smooth on his feet and rode top like a beast. Franco in his first collegiate match looked more like an experienced veteran than a true freshmen. He was real tough on top and I think that comes from great work out partners like Bonanno and Ruggierello. It's going to be interesting to see how they fit him in the lineup once Bonanno comes back. 133 is a real problem for them. Rotella just cannot get the job done. I don't believe Franco can compete up at 133 but for duals it would work better if Bonanno bumps up and Franco wrestles 125. This would at least make for a stronger dual line-up because Rotella is going to give up serious points.

With all the light weight recruits they signed, I feel they are seriously neglecting the upper weights. I understand that its important to stock pile lower weights because guys grow and moev up in weight classes but get real. They have absolutely no depth at the upper weight classes. Tortora is graduating, who isn't even a true 197 pounder, and all they have is Snyder at HWT. One injury at 197 or HWT and it becomes a serious issue for them. They'll have to start bumping up back-up 174 pounders.
Forum: College

2009-2010 Season

So as we close out a decade largely dominated by Chaminade and St. Anthony's we are seeing a new power emerge out in Staten Island. Monsignor Farrell took the team title last season along with 5 individual champions. St. Anthonys stole the show however at Publics earning a Champion a 3rd place and a 4th place finishers giving them a 6th place finish at the tournament. However coach Dugo im sure is not willing to let his Chaminade program go quietly into the night and let coach Walters and Destefano take over the league. Then we have Kellenberg who rounded out the top 4 last year and is looking to get back into the mix for the title after a disappointing finish last year with no champions for the first time under the tenure of Coach Alfalla.

As a whole it is an exciting time to be a member or fan of CHSAA wrestling. Coming off our best season since I have been following the league, we return 8 Champions 4 of which placed 4th or better at publics last year. Hopefully this year we can have 8-9 guys placing at publics with a couple of champions and finish as a league in the top half. This would be a great accomplishment and is certainly doable with the talent we have in this league.

As far as competition for the league title is concerned this is my projection of the top 10 at the state tournament:

10.Iona Prep - coach has been quietly making big improvements to the program and will soon be a force to reckon with in the league.

9.St. John the Baptist - have been hovering around the league in this area for a while looking for a breakthrough. Rohena and may have CHSAA State finalist potential, has been a drought for some time now since a Baptist wrestler has seen the finals.

8.Fordham Prep - Congrats to Lenzi on going to UPENN, forget about wrestling this is by far the most important thing you have done in your life so far. Not enough of a supporting cast to crack into the top 5 I believe.

7.St. Francis - still looking for them to get back to competing for a State Title, Coach Messore assured me last season in Albany that they will return to championship form. They will make strides this year but it is definitely a work in progress and will need some more time before they return to the top.

6.St. Joes - Surprised a lot of people last year. No idea what they're doing up there but its working, have seen consistent improvement out of this team the last few years and cracked the top 5 last year. Return a good cast especially in the upper weights.

5.Holy Trinity - lose Deluca and White but coach Savello and Coach Sav have been working hard all year to make sure their team is ready to compete. Aside from working on his softball swing coach Sav has been developing a lot of young talent at Trinity that should be ready to come up and start competing at the varsity level this year. These guys do a lot of good work with an incredibly small room and not so great facilities. Like always they will have a few guys in contention to win states and will probably have a couple of champions when all is said and done. Have to keep an eye on them because they are due for a strong class of kids like they had in 2006 that can threaten some of the other powers in the league.

4.Chaminade - makes me incredibly happy to put them this low. Still reeling from the loss of NEUGY!and his heartwrenching loss in last years finals, I just dont see how they can finish any higher than 4th this year. Always seem to find a way to pull out dual meets and the league tournament but couldn't do it last year and probably wont be able to do it again this year. I see them losing to Anthony's and Kellenberg this year, when the hell is the last time that happened? Sampson and Fowler will try and lead the team to a better finish but they have their work cut out for them.

3.Monsignor Farrell - lose a lot of guys from last years team and I believe they will suffer a hungover from last years successes. This prediction will make me very unpopular in Staten Island but i am willing to try and deal with this and defend myself against all the fist pumping. I just don't see it this year , Villaret has been working hard all offseason and it should payoff for him come time for pulbics, Carlo will be looking to make a splash as well at the end of the season. If they do retain the top spot it will be from sheer numbers especially in the lightweights and the success of their kid wrestling program that the coaching staff over there has done such a good job building.

2. St Anthony's - Lets face it you cant argue with what Brienza, Morris, and Greene did last year. Interesting to see where they will all wrestle this year but how many teams in all of new york have 3 returning all state wrestlers. I feel bad for the 4th member of their shark group who gets beat up everyday (probably eckert). The depth is lacking however and the points will not be enough to take home the title. We saw this happen last year in states. The dual meet title will also elude them this year and they will not repeat. Up and down even if their big 3 get pins too many holes in the lineup to make up for and they will end up relying on too many mediocre guys to get points.

1. Kellenberg - Will win the triple crown sweeping the dual title , league tournament title, and the state title. Lost a really good senior class but no other team has as solid a lineup up and down like Kellenberg will have this year. Not only this but the depth in their lineup with their 2's and 3's will certainly push them over the top come tournament time and do something no other Kellenberg team has ever done, win a Team CHSAA State Championship Title. In my eyes and from what I have seen the only thing that can stop them is themselves.

Responses?

Forum: Catholic League Wrestling

What is your opinion on playing more than one sport?
Coaches I have spoken to have differing opinions.

I believe it is fine for the average high school athlete.

A good athlete playing multiple sports may even make all-county or based on athletic ability, win county.

If one wants to maximize their chance of being an elite wrestler (win county, state or national level) I believe they must wrestle all year against the best competition they can find. They also should do weight training geared to wrestling and get both group and private lessons. Outside of eating healthy I don't believe in controlling diet unless it is in season and even then cutting is usually the wrong way to go, especially for younger wrestlers who are still growing.

Forum: Section 8 - HS Wrestling
